Continuing a tradition begun a few years ago, Uptown Gallery’s
annual All-Member show is meant to benefit Richmond by calling
attention to a worthy organization or cause.
This year’s exhibit, “In Over Our Heads?”, calls attention to the
problem of fresh water. The public is very conscious of looming
energy shortages, but almost completely unaware of how limited our
water resources are.
By depicting our beautiful, and disappearing, bodies of water, the
artists hope to encourage viewers to work toward conservation and
better national policies.
The exhibit in the Frable Gallery by artist Emma Lou Martin accents
this theme by depicting not only our water resources, but also the
theme of outer space. It was our forays into outer space which first
made us so aware of the uniqueness of our “blue planet” and its
water features.
