VMFA Docents Exhibition 2008
Richmond, VA – Art has been described as the expression of human
emotions. Uptown Gallery is proud to host the exhibition VMFA
Docent/Artist Show from June 6 through July 31, 2008, with two
receptions on the First Fridays of the months: June 6 and July 11, 2008,
from 5:00 to 9:00 PM respectively.
This exhibition features 40 works of art by docents, or tour leaders, from
the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts that will be displayed on the Third
Floor ELM Gallery. These works are of varied media ranging from
digital images/film photography and monoprints to watercolors, oils
and acrylics. Exhibition organizer Emma Lou Martin was enthusiastic in
her praise when she said, “The Docents’ intensive academic training at
the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts makes their perspective unique as a
tool in their artistic creations. Through their rigorous study they bring an
added source of inspiration to their work by their deeper understanding
of cultures worldwide and of man’s urge to create art throughout the
ages. We are indeed fortunate to have a great collection at the Virginia
Museum of Fine Arts.”
UpTown Gallery, now in its sixteenth year is an artists’ co-op, is located
at 1305 West Main Street in Richmond. It boasts more than 40
outstanding member-artists working in varied media. The gallery is
unique in that it is staffed by the artists themselves. The gallery is open
Tuesday through Friday from 11:00 to 5:00, and Saturdays from 11:00 to
4:00. Ample off-street parking is available. Questions? Call 804-353-
8343 Tuesday through Sunday.
