In its last exhibit,
Uptown Gallery
artists began
exploring the
symbolism of a
simple object…the
chair.
In that exhibit, chairs
evoked travel,
memories, and loss.
In the new exhibit
opening Nov. 30,
members of the
Metropolitan
Richmond Artists
Association use
chairs to explore
isolation, friendship
and society. The
exhibit arose from a
challenge the
members issued
themselves to
interpret a quote by
Henry David
Thoreau, “Three
chairs….one for
solitude, two for
friendship, three for
society.”
